Text description provided by the architects. Inserted in a recent urban allotment in Carcavelos, the trapezoidal plot, with approximately 500m2, allowed the construction of a house with a total area of 180m2 plus basement. The rules of the allotment pre-defined a regular and rigid volume to be built, shaped by the limits of the implantation polygon. The project sought to reduce this rigidity through the construction of voids as a process of volumetric subtraction, allowing to create a better relationship with the surroundings and the outdoor spaces of the house.

The context, program, and orientation of the house defined the composition of these voids, resulting in four façades functionally distinct from each other but united by the same design idea.

On the east and south façades, the void translates into a patio that highlights the main entrance and allows natural lighting from the lower floor. At the west, on the back facade, the void is manifested by a porch and a terrace for the garden. At the north, the side façade turns into a large opening leading to the basement.

Internally, the house is built on two floors above ground. The living room, kitchen and office are located on the entrance floor. On the first floor are three bedrooms. On the lower floor are the laundry room, the technical area and the storage rooms. The white paint and the vertical slat cladding define the materiality of the facades. Inside, the wood of the floors and the microcement of the stairs stand out.
